Privacy Policy for Nightfall
Last updated: August 30, 2026
This policy explains what Nightfall ("the app," "we," "us") does and does not do with your information. It's written to match what the app actually does — if something below changes in a future update, this page will be updated to match it.
Summary
Nightfall calculates fasting and prayer times, Qibla direction, and related features using your location. That calculation happens entirely on your device. The app does not run ads, does not use analytics or tracking SDKs, and does not have user accounts. The only information that leaves your device does so for specific, limited functional reasons described below — mainly, looking up place names when you search for or detect a location.
Information We Collect and How It's Used
Location
If you grant location permission, Nightfall uses your device's GPS coordinates to calculate Iftar, Imsak, prayer, and Qibla times for your position. This calculation is performed entirely on your device — your coordinates are not sent to us or stored on any server we operate.
If you use "Detect My Location," your coordinates are passed to Android's built-in Geocoder service to look up a readable place name (e.g., "Cairo, Egypt") to display in the app. On most devices, this lookup is handled by Google's geocoding service, subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
Location Search Text
If you manually search for a city — on the Location screen, during onboarding, or in Travel Mode's departure/destination fields — the text you type is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to find matching places. This is a standard, free geocoding service used by many apps; requests are sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Nominatim's own privacy practices are governed by OpenStreetMap Foundation's policies.
Travel Mode also sends a calculated midpoint coordinate to Nominatim to look up a display name for that midpoint (e.g., "~Cairo, Egypt" shown as the midpoint of a journey).
We do not attach your identity to these search requests beyond what's inherently included in any standard network request (such as your IP address, visible to Nominatim as it would be to any web service you contact).
Purchases
Nightfall Pro, the Ramadan Bundle, and one-time tips are processed entirely through Google Play Billing. We do not receive or store your payment details (card numbers, billing address, etc.) — that information is handled by Google, subject to Google Play's Privacy Policy. We only store, locally on your device, whether you've purchased Pro or the Ramadan Bundle, so the app knows which features to unlock.
Information Stored Locally on Your Device
The app stores the following locally, using Android's standard app storage — none of it is transmitted to us or to any server we operate:
Your location and location name
Calculation method, notification, and display preferences
Notification/alarm settings and sound choices
Fasting-tracker history (which days you've marked as fasted)
Ramadan Mode data (start date, streak, preparation tracking)
Travel Mode's saved journey (if you turn that on)
Purchase status (Pro / Ramadan Bundle)
Up to 5 recently used locations
Uninstalling the app deletes all of this data, since none of it exists anywhere else.
What We Do Not Collect
Nightfall does not use advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or crash-reporting SDKs. We do not know how you use the app, how often you open it, or anything else about your usage beyond what's stored locally on your own device as described above. There is no user account, login, or profile of any kind.
Sharing Your Precision Report
The "Share Report" feature generates an image on your device and hands it to Android's standard share sheet, so you can send it via whatever app you choose (Messages, WhatsApp, etc.). We do not see, receive, or store a copy of what you share — it goes directly from your device to wherever you send it.
Data Retention and Deletion
Because everything the app stores lives only on your device, deleting your data is as simple as uninstalling the app, or clearing the app's storage from your device's system settings.
Children's Privacy
Nightfall is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. Since the app has no accounts and stores information only locally on-device, there is no server-side data of any kind to collect from anyone, including children.
Changes to This Policy
If what the app collects or how it's used changes in a future update, this page will be updated accordingly, and the "Last updated" date at the top will reflect that.
